SaySpell ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at sayspell.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently.
By using this website you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the site.
Information we collect
We collect very limited information in order to operate this service:
- Usage data. Like all websites, our server logs may record your IP address, browser type, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard web server behaviour and is used only for security and performance monitoring.
- Advertising data. We display adverts served by Google AdSense. Google may collect data about you in order to serve relevant adverts. Please see Google's own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy for full details.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information unless you contact us directly (see "Contact" below).
Microphone and voice data
This site uses your device's microphone to provide the spelling service. It is important to understand how this works:
- Voice recognition is performed entirely within your browser using the Web Speech API, a built-in browser feature.
- We do not transmit, store, or process your voice audio on our servers. Audio never leaves your device via our systems.
- Your browser may transmit audio to the browser vendor's servers (for example Google's servers when using Chrome) as part of the Web Speech API. This is governed by your browser vendor's own privacy policy, not ours.
- You can revoke microphone permission at any time via your browser settings.
Cookies
We use the following types of cookies on this site:
- Strictly necessary cookies. These are essential for the site to function and cannot be disabled.
- Advertising cookies. Google AdSense sets cookies to serve personalised advertisements. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting adssettings.google.com.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some features.
Third-party services
This site makes use of the following third-party services:
- Google AdSense — for displaying advertisements. Google Privacy Policy.
- Wiktionary / open-dictionary — for providing word definitions and etymology. Data is fetched from GitHub's raw content delivery network. No personal data is shared with this service.
- Web Speech API — provided by your browser vendor for voice recognition.
Children's privacy
This site is suitable for use by children, but we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law (including the UK GDPR), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict our processing of your data

Since we collect minimal personal data, most of these rights are unlikely to be relevant in practice. However, please contact us if you have any concerns.
